Hi, Nathan East here and I'd like to go
over a couple of the songs that I've
played over the years, maybe about 40
years that I've been running around to
all the studios and playing these songs.
One of the first ones I played was with
an artist named Barry White. And he used
to go around and sing our parts to each
one of us. And there was a song called
Ecstasy when he lay down next to me. And
he came over to me and he said, "Okay,
Nate, I want you to play Dog."
I always say I went to Barry White
University because he had so many great
ideas for bass. And um fast forward a
couple years to being on tour with Kenny
Loggins and he was asked to write the
title track of the uh soundtrack for a
film called Foot Loose. So every day we
practiced this song. The baseline
was the chorus baseline is a little more
complicated. It goes like this.
something like that. And then fast
forward to my first trip to London to
record the Philip Bailey Chinese Wall
album which was produced by Phil
Collins. After two weeks of recording,
uh Phil Bailey said, you know, we still
need kind of like an undeniable single,
something that the record company will
pick for their first single. So we we
kind of went over to the piano and came
up with this song that goes something
like this.
Fun thing about that was we did a demo
of the song in the studio. Uh, you know,
we wrote it in about maybe 20 30
minutes, which was was a lot of fun. And
we came back the next morning and
listened to it and we all liked what we
played on the demo. So that became the
record and Phil Collins when he wrote
the lyrics he was singing the song and I
thought hey you sound great singing it
too. Why don't you you guys do it as a
duet? So they did it as a duet song.
It's called Easy Lover around the world.
It got played a lot. So uh that was a
lot of fun. Um, fast forward to another
few years, we did the Unplugged album
with Eric Clapton and we did a song
called Tears in Heaven.
And then we recorded this other song
with air clap and it goes like this.
Change the World. Another one of my
favorite songs. I got to play on so many
good good songs and records with artists
like Anita Baker and and um Bill Collins
and and uh with Foreplay which we
started uh the band in the early 90s
with Bob James, Lee Written, Harvey
Mason and myself wrote a song for them
that um called 101 Eastbound and this is
the baseline for that.
Anyway, that was a lot of fun. More
recently, and I think this was song of
the year, too, or record of the year,
but this was with a group called Daft
Punk.
Get lucky. What a fun song. And I have
the pleasure of playing all of these
songs through my signature amp, the
Laney DB East.
So, if you like the tones that you've
heard through my signature amp, please
feel free to call your Sweetwater sales
engineer and they will take really good
care of you.
