Rick Daringer has died. He was 77. I'm
John Bowden. This is Rock History
Music. Daringer was an influential
American guitarist, singer, songwriter,
and producer. Born Richard Dean Zaringer
on August 5th, 1947 in Selena, Ohio.
Daringer's musical journey began in his
teenage years and spawned several
decades, leaving an indelible mark on
the rock and roll landscape. Daringer
first gained national attention at only
17 as a frontman for the band the McCoys
whose 1965 hit Hang on Sloopy reached
number one on the Billboard Hot 100
chart. The song became an anthem of its
time and was later designated as the
official rock song of Ohio. In the
1970s, Daringer collaborated with blues
rock guitarist Johnny Wy, contributing
to the album Still Alive and Well, he
also worked with Edgar Wyinners's White
Trash and the Edgar Winner Group,
producing the platinum selling album,
and everyone had this album in the 70s.
They only come out at night, which
featured the hits Frankenstein and
Freeide. As a solo artist, Daringer is
famous for releasing the All-American
Boy album 73, featuring a very enduring
rock and roll, very hookie song called
Rock and Roll Hoochie Coup. The song
reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot
100, and it's been featured in a lot of
films and TV series, cementing its place
in rock history. Beyond his performance
career, Daringer was a prolific producer
and session musician. He collaborated
with artists like Steely Dan, Todd
Runren, and Cindy Looper. Notably, he
produced several albums for Weird Al
Yanovic, including the Grammy-winning
parodies of Michael Jackson hits. Rick
Daringer's contributions to music were
characterized by his versatile guitar
work, producing skills, and his unique
ability to adapt to various musical
styles. He will be missed. Favorite
songs, favorite albums? Did you ever see
him in concert or even meet him? Share
your memories on Rick Deringer, one of
the good ones. I'm John Bowden. This is
