time facing depression over the band's
disbandment it was clear from his
appearance unkempt and distant that he
was emotionally
drained and then there's John and Yoko
Serene and matching in their black robes
looking calm amidst the
chaos they seem to have found their
peace but as the film clearly shows each
Beetle had found their own path but it
was was clear they were heading in
separate
directions despite the underlying
tension Neil Aspen edited these separate
moments into a cohesive
film the result was a piece that looked
like the Beatles were still
together but in reality they were barely
on speaking terms Alan Kosen writing in
the New York Times after Aspen's death
in 2008 said what Mr Aspen's idilic film
avoided showing was that the Beatles
were at that point barely on speaking
terms no two Beatles are seen together
fast forward to
2015 when the film was restored by
Jonathan Clyde and included in the
Beatles OnePlus video
compilation Rolling Stone journalist Rob
Sheffield wrote that each couple in the
film projects a totally different vibe
it's almost as if each Beetle had found
what he was looking for yet all were
heading for different Futures while
something is often thought to have been
directly inspired by Patty Boyd it is
more likely that George viewed it as a
companion piece to his earlier song long
long long from The White Album both
tracks explore themes of Love
intertwining romantic and spiritual
elements in a 1976 interview with
rolling stone George elaborated on his
approach to writing love songs
explaining how his lyrics merged both
Divine and Earthly love for George

his love for Patty it represented
something deeper an exploration of Love

spiritual yearning learning George later
revealed that the song was in fact
inspired by his Devotion to Krishna
though as he humorously pointed out he
couldn't directly reference Krishna in
the lyrics I had to say she he said with
a playful grin or they'd think I was a
poof when a reporter questioned whether
he was singing about Krishna or a woman
George responded that's good I like that
I think individual love is just a little
of Universal love singing to the Lord or
an individual is in a way the same I've
done that consciously in some
songs the promo clip was first aired on
top of the pops in the UK on November
13th 1969 marking the last time the
Beatles would create a promotional film
together in the years that followed it
